Offshore
Jurisdictions
Offshore jurisdictions have developed specialist services and facilities
that can, with proper professional advice, offer fiscal and legal
advantages to residents of other jurisdictions.
With so many offshore jurisdictions to choose from, each with its
own strengths and weaknesses, it is important to select the one most
suitable to your unique requirements.
Some factors to bear in mind include the legal system, political and
economic stability, professional infrastructure, regulatory environment,
time zone and up-to-date telecommunications.
The Channel Isles
The Channel Islands are located in the Bay of St. Malo in the English
Channel. They comprise of the following islands: Guernsey, Alderney,
Herm, Jethou, Sark and Jersey.
Jersey
Jersey is a dependent territory of the English Crown, but has its
own government and complete autonomy in domestic and fiscal matters.
Jersey enjoys some privileges of EU association via its relationship
with the UK, without being subject to any directive relating to fiscal
or financial services. Jersey is a low tax jurisdiction and depending
upon investors' circumstances this can hold potential benefits for
individuals and corporations.
Guernsey
When Close launched its operation on Guernsey, in 1965, we were the
second Merchant Bank established on the island. Today there are more
than 75 banking institutions operating there.
Guernsey also is a dependent territory of the English Crown, and
again
has its own government and complete autonomy in domestic and fiscal
matters. With similar fiscal and financial legislation to Jersey,
Guernsey’s sophisticated infrastructure and regulations (including
stringent investor protection and trust law), together with its stability,
provides clients with a high level of security and confidentiality.
Isle of Man
The Isle of Man is a long established international financial centre and
is located centrally within the British Isles between Great Britain and Ireland.
The island is an internally self governing dependency of the British Crown however
the UK Government is responsible for the external affairs of the Island such
as defence and foreign representation. Close Wealth Management Group
can trace its roots in the island back to 1976.
The Island has enjoyed long term political and economic stability which has been
the responsibility of the Isle of Man's own Parliament, Tynwald. Established
over 1000 years ago, Tynwald is the oldest continuous democratic government in
the world and makes its own laws and oversees all internal administration, fiscal
and social affairs. As part of the Isle of Man Government's commitment to maintain
the well respected profile of the Island, it is committed to firmly establish
the Isle of Man as a leading e-commerce platform in the offshore world.
The Isle of Man is not part of the European Union. However it enjoys a special
relationship with the Union to freely trade goods through Protocol 3 to the United
Kingdom's Treaty of Accession.
